New SAASM Compatible GPS Module For Digital Cameras Delivers Advanced Geotagging and Object Location Capabilities

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) February 01, 2012

Geo Tactical Solutions (GTS) is in the final stages of development for its new digital camera GPS moduleGeoMapr. GeoMapr, planned to be released during first quarter 2012, will offer advanced capabilities to support geospatial photo intelligence collection. The module is designed to work with any digital camera compatible with SDHC cards and meet the demanding requirements of military and federal users. Noteworthy features of the GeoMapr include greater speed and accuracy of GPS readings, automatic photo memos, recording object location, tracklogs, multiple GPS coordinate formats, on-board 3D compass, selective availability anti-spoofing module (SAASM) compatibility, and GIS integration.

Recording Object Location

Laser range finders may be connected to the GeoMapr module via a WiFi-enabled SDHC card or cable connection to record distance and GPS coordinates of objects. GeoMapr combines the laser range finders data with GPS positional data to calculate the location of an object within a photograph. All GPS coordinates collected with GeoMapr may be stored in a variety of formats including LAT/LONG, MGRS, Decimal Degrees, DMS, UTM and State Plane depending on user requirements.

SAASM Compatibility

Especially designed for military users, GeoMaprs Selective Availability Anti-spoofing Module (SAASM) is used to allow decryption of precision GPS coordinates in order to obtain accurate GPS readings in a GPS compromised environment. These secure and decrypted GPS signals can be recorded using the GeoMapr by itself or by connecting to a Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR) depending on the specific requirements of the user. This feature ensures accurate GPS readings even in the presence of jamming or spoofing.

Automatic Memos

GeoMapr supports up to 20 attribute fields called memos which are used to tag photographs with relevant information such as photographers name, operation ID, operation type, unit ID, and so on. This information, along with GPS coordinates, GPS date and time, are automatically stored as metadata in each image file on the GeoMapr module. Memo fields are created and stored within the GeoMapr module before photographs are recorded thereby automating the process of capturing the who, what, when, where and why of each photo with a simple press of the shutter button, explained Andy Shannon, Sales and Support Manager at Geo Tactical Solutions. Collecting this information not only transforms a photograph into a powerful information source, it keeps photographs organized by common attributes and facilitates more complete, accurate and simplified mapping and reporting.

3D Compass and Tracklogs

GeoMaprs on-board 3D compass allows users to record the direction a photograph was taken in addition to GPS coordinates which is also a major component of its ability to record object location. In addition, GPS tracklogs can be recorded that, when mapped, show the geographic path by which photographs were collected. After images are collected in the field, GeoMapr uploads the data to a computer in preparation for analysis, mapping and reporting.

GIS Integration

GTS offers photo mapping and management software (PhotoGIS) along with GeoMapr and GPS cameras for mapping, editing and reporting photos collected in the field. Digital photographs collected with GeoMapr can be converted into a number of file formats suitable for mapping in popular GIS applications such as ArcGIS, FalconView, TIGR and Google Earth for further geographic analysis. The images are plotted as a separate spatial data layer along with their associated attribute information (memos).

As a direct result of customer feedback, we designed and developed the GeoMapr GPS module to be extremely lightweight, water-resistant, rugged, versatile and affordable while still providing all the capabilities required by the most demanding operations and workflows, noted Mr. Shannon. GeoMapr is truly a great accomplishment for GTS and a noteworthy innovation in GPS photo technology.

This year more than 80 stellar feature and short films from around the globe will be screened at the historic Campus Theatre and other venues in downtown Denton, February 10th-20th, 2012.

This years scheduled features films cover an array of topics including the biographies of inspirational and revolutionary figures, a behind-the-scenes look at teenage bullying in BullyCam, an examination of the indie rock scene in China, and the challenges, struggles and uplifting accomplishments of both humans and animals from all parts of the world.

In addition, Thin Line Film Fest will showcase a number of documentaries, acclaimed by critics and included on the Oscars shortlist. Buck follows the life of acclaimed horse whisperer Buck Brannaman who recovered from years of child abuse to become a well-known expert in the interactions between horses and people. I started Thin Line Film Fest five years ago in Denton because documentary film gives a unique perspective to often overlooked subjects. Documentaries can make the viewer see things or think about things in a completely new way, said Joshua Butler, founder of Thin Line Film Fest. Denton is the perfect setting for this type of festival because it shares the same independent and creative spirit. Im excited how this years festival is coming together and cant wait to kick things off February 10th.

Last year, The New York Times dubbed Thin Line Film Fest as one of the things to do that week which featured the Texas premiere of Troubadours, fresh from Sundance Film Festival, as well as This Way of Life and Enemies of the People; both off the 2010 Oscar shortlist for Best Documentary. The 2012 festival promises to be bigger, better and more revered already having received nearly twice the number of films submitted to be considered than in the previous year.

AeroComputers and BMS Announce Integration Between UC-5100 Mission Management System and Carry-Viewer III Handheld Receiver

Poway, California (PRWEB) January 30, 2012

Broadcast Microwave Services, Inc. (BMS) and AeroComputers Inc. recently completed an engineering effort to integrate special mission products which serve the law enforcement, public safety and government surveillance markets. BMS, a leading manufacturer of wireless video microwave communications systems for use with airborne law enforcement and public safety applications, features its Geo-Point software capability used in BMS handheld receivers. AeroComputers, the leading manufacturer of onboard aircraft computer systems for airborne law enforcement, features its UC-5100 mission management system and other onboard equipment for live display of location data and mapping.

Geo-Point works with AeroComputers UC-5100 mission management system by continually transmitting aircraft and camera position coordinates to ground-based receivers. The Carry-Viewer III Plus receiver from BMS can decode the coordinates and point to the position of the aircraft as well as the center of the EO/IR cameras image. This integration reduces aircrew workload and leverages technology to automatically provide guidance to personnel on the ground.

The ability for ground crews to have a live, individual display directing them right to the camera target location saves a lot of time and radio traffic otherwise required to explain to each Deputy where the target is from their specific position, said Deputy Chad Davis of the Pima County Sheriffs Department (AZ). The system has proven to save time and reduce confusion for both the aircrew and ground teams. Both AeroComputers and Broadcast Microwave Systems have offered excellent customer service and have been very supportive assisting with setup and troubleshooting of their equipment and ensuring that everything works together properly.

About BMS:

BMS, a Cohu company (http://www.cohu.com) and a leader in COFDM microwave transmission, designs, develops, manufactures, and sells microwave transmission systems. BMS has a broad range of microwave communication products and systems developed for news and entertainment, law enforcement, unmanned aerial vehicles, and military surveillance applications. For more information on all of BMS products, visit our website at http://www.bms-inc.com.
